TUM Boring I presents Tunnel Boring Machine at Rollout in Munich
Faster than the snail new drilling robot for tunnel construction
For the participants of the competition in Elon Musk's "Not a Boring Competition," the motto remains the same in 2025: "Let's beat the snail." The goal of the competition is to develop a tunnel boring machine that can exceed the speed of a garden snail, which moves at 3 meters per hour. This means the machine must be 10 times faster than the market average of a current tunnel boring machine. The challenge is to drill a tunnel with a 50 cm diameter and 30 meters in length. The team from the Technical University of Munich, TUM Boring, managed to outpace its competitors.
Rollout Event at the MVG Museum in Munich
"A fantastic event with engaging discussions between students and sponsors, where cross-university fundamental research for commercial use was presented, along with an enabler for the switch from overground to underground supply roads. SEALABLE is proud to support the TUM Boring team."
